what could possibly replace them?

Jesus challenged his disciples with the question: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”

I would challenge myself (and every other parent) with a question adapted from Jesus’ question: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your family?”

What could possibly matter more than your family? What could possibly balance the books if you lost your spouse or your children? What could successfully replace them? The obvious answer to these questions is NOTHING.

If I really believe this, then how does this belief translate into actions. Time, attention, and money are spent differently if I truly believe in the importance of family. Career, hobbies, and friendships are placed lower on the priority list if I truly believe in the importance of family.

So do I really believe in the importance of family? Do you? I challenge myself to not just say I believe in the importance of my family. Instead I need to show I believe in the importance of my family by what I do with my time, attention, and money. What about you?
